Posted on February 12, 2018 by elise

This is the (long overdue) second installment in my “The Books that Built Me” series. Read my first post on The Things They Carried here.ย  I was twelve years old, and my sister Emily had sent me an Easter present. It was a book. Being that I am me and this is a book blog, […]

#abcsofsummerreads Day 18: O is for ocean! ๐ŸŒŠ๐ŸŒŠ๐ŸŒŠ Need to start reading my book club book for July...Iโ€™m so behind! This is another psychological thriller in which a couple makes a shocking discovery on their honeymoon which leads them to make a life-changing choice. It sounds like it would make a perfect beach read!
#abcsofsummerreads Day 17: N is for night sky! ๐ŸŒŒ๐ŸŒŒ๐ŸŒŒ This is one of my most favorite reads of 2017. Itโ€™s very much a character-driven book but I thought it was absolutely lovely. Highly recommend! 5 โญ๏ธsโ€”๐Ÿ˜‰
#abcsofsummerreads Day 11: I is for for ice cream! ๐Ÿฆ๐Ÿฆ๐Ÿฆ Iโ€™m actually going to cheat here a bit because I havenโ€™t had time to take pictures the last couple of days. So weโ€™ll go with ice GARDEN instead, because it was one of my favorite settings in one of my favorite books (and an ice garden sounds like a deliciously cool place to spend a hot summerโ€™s day) and I conveniently found this old pic on my phone ๐Ÿ˜
#abcsofsummerreads Day 8: a summer read that everyoneโ€™s talking about ๐Ÿ’–๐Ÿ’–๐Ÿ’– This is one Iโ€™ve seen up and down my feed for the last couple of weeks!
#campinstawrimo Day 8: Writing beverage of choice โ˜•๏ธโ˜•๏ธโ˜•๏ธ Hot tea! Preferably in a cute mug ๐Ÿ˜‰ Iโ€™m a huge fan of @adagioteas for delicious, loose leaf tea blends. @ohcararara and @riddlesteashoppe are a couple of my favorite blenders!
#campinstawrimo Day 6: an author who inspires you ๐Ÿ’๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ’๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ’๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ After listening to her speak on the First Draft podcast, Iโ€™m definitely feeling inspired by Morgan Matson! It was encouraging to hear how she worked through her struggles with her Save the Date manuscript, going through multiple drafts over many, many months to get into shape. #firstdraftpod #firstdraftsarehard
#abcsofsummerreads Day 6: E is for enchanted! ๐Ÿฐ๐Ÿฐ๐Ÿฐ Totally thought I had more fairytale retellings in my current collection, but apparently I was wrong ๐Ÿ™ˆ weโ€™ve got here from top to bottom: The Goose Girl, Rapunzel/Snow White, the Little Mermaid, the Twelve Dancing Princesses (one of my favorites!) and, of course, Beauty and the Beast ๐Ÿ˜Š ๐ŸŒน๐ŸŒน๐ŸŒน Whatโ€™s your favorite fairy tale retelling?
#abcsofsummerreads Day 5: D is for daisies! ๐ŸŒผ๐ŸŒผ๐ŸŒผ Where are my Jojo Moyes fans? The Me Before You series is a personal favorite, but this one was quite good too!
#abcsofsummerreads Day 4: C is for camp! Itโ€™s a rainy Fourth of July here in Houston, so I decided to bust out the flashlights for todayโ€™s prompt. Iโ€™m having flashbacks to reading by snakelight in my bunk at Camp Takatoka...and also at home in an empty bathtubโ€”it was my clever way to keep reading past my bedtime, because if I got caught out of bed, I could just pretend I only got up to pee ๐Ÿ˜‚ #myravenclawisshowing
